NSC General Meeting & Pre-Season Party

This year our preseason event will feature a fun evening playing bunco.  Sandy McGregor, our former board member introduced the game to us and those who attended her event are now hooked on it.   It is really easy to learn and is very entertaining.  Bunco is a game of dice played in rounds.  Players take turns rolling the dice and trying to accumulate as many points as possible to win each round.  The game is played at tables of four in competing teams of two.   Prizes will be awarded at the end of the game.

BUNCO, anyone?   See www.buncorules.com/rules.html

Information

Join us for a scenic, flat ride starting in San Jose at the Coyote Creek multi-use trail following the longest creek in Santa Clara County as it flows from Anderson Dam to Hellyer Park. Along the way we’ll past Coyote Ranch, a historic ranch surrounded by palm and giant pepper trees. Further on, the trail passes the Santa Clara County Model Airplane Skypark, where (if we’re lucky) we’ll see an air show of fast, agile planes doing showy aerobatics. After passing under Hwy 101, we cross Coyote Creek on a wide bridge, run through an old orchard, and end in the middle of a subdivision. From there, we’ll follow city streets to the Anderson Lake County Pk. where we stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we return the same way to Hellyer Park for a round trip of about 32.5 miles.

What to bring: All riders MUST wear a helmet and should carry a pump. Bikes should be in good condition. Bring a water bottle, spare inner tube, patch kit, sunscreen, and snacks to share (optional). Due to unpredictable weather, a light jacket is suggested for cool weather conditions.

Directions and Information: We will send information in separate email.

Help needed: Group leaders and flat-fixers needed in case we split up into multiple groups.

No SAG Support but we will be equipped for flats and minor repairs.

Join us in the coastal redwoods for a hike of about 5 miles in Huddart Park on Oct.17. Days can still be warm this time of year so this mostly shaded park can be a great escape. Go West off Hwy 280 on Woodside Road (Hwy 84) in San Mateo county (watch for particularly vigilant cops in Woodside). Bear right just after the main part of town onto Kings Mtn. Road for about 3 miles on a very winding and steep road to the park on the right. Meet at the Zwierlein picnic area at 9:15 AM. NOTE: THIS IS A
CHANGE FROM THE MIWOK AREA IN LAST MONTH’S FLYER.
Bring layered clothes for changeable weather, a hat, strong hiking shoes, a lunch (optional) with drinks and possibly something to share and a camera. We will also suggest places for lunch after the hike about a half hour away by car. Cost to enter the park is $5 per car, so carpooling is highly recommended. If you would like, you can meet at my house in Campbell, just W of San Tomas Expressway and consolidate vehicles there. I can also help you pair up with other hikers. I plan to leave my place at no later than 8:30 AM and can take 5 more people. For a more detailed description of the hike, go to here.

Contact Brian Chan to sign up.
